Nature Program

The 30,000 annuals and perennials planted in beautiful garden areas all over the main property at Ruttger's makes our self-guided Garden Tour a lovely and gentle walk. Maps and information are available in the Activities Office located in the Front Desk Lobby.

Our staff naturalist can deliver a variety of informative nature programs. One of the most popular is the loon presentation which includes a 20-minute audio / visual segment, followed by a pontoon boat ride on Bay Lake to observe Minnesota's state bird in its natural habitat. Nature walks and bird watching (eagles and osprey) are examples of other nature programs available to our guests.

The Bass Lake Trail is 1.2 miles long and is located just off the #3 tee box on Alec's Nine Golf Course. There is a variety of birds and other wildlife to observe, and you'll have a splendid view of an eagle's nest! The Bass Lake Trail is self-interpretive. Maps are available in the Activities Office, or sign up for the weekly tour led by our Naturalist.

The Black Bear Trail is for the more serious hiker. Two miles of rougher terrain through hardwood forest adjoining state lands, this trail meanders around The Lakes course and offers a true "wilderness" experience. Not for the faint-hearted, please let our Activities staff know if you would like to hike this trail!
